Archive Art Scans
While the digital world is quickly encircling all of us, the one thing digital hasn't done is diminish the value of all of the transparencies and negatives you’ve created. If you’re like most established photographers, you likely have thousands of transparencies neatly stored, organized by subject and date. What will happen to all of those images? Other than getting old and deteriorating, nothing will happen to them. Nothing because editors and stock agencies are now demanding digital files. Nothing because labs can’t make internegatives or print directly from slides anymore.

Fine Print has a solution to the dilemma of what to do with your most important 35mm and medium format transparencies and negatives. Our Archive Scanning Service provides high resolution scans (created on our Nikon Cool Scan 5000 ED and 9000ED's) at a fraction of the cost of our drum scans.   While our Archive Scans are raw scans, each scan is given professional attention and care. However, since these are raw scans, you will need to apply final corrections to the images, including color adjustment and sharpening, before using the scans for printing or publishing. Once you have adjusted the scans to accommodate your needs, you'll be able to print images which approach drum scan quality.

Info on our Archive Scans:

  • Scans are made at 4000 dpi for 35mm slides and negatives, 2800 dpi for medium format transparencies and negatives. File size is dependant on film format.
  • Scans are saved as TIFFS
  • Digital Ice scratch and dust removal is used during the scanning process
  • We apply basic color, density and contrast adjustments (because these are raw scans, they will need additional adjustments prior to printing or publishing)
  • Free archive to CD (all images from one scanning session will be archived to one CD unless volume of scans dictates otherwise)
  • Scans are not labeled with your titles. They are numbered in sequence scanned (e.g., 001, 002, 003…). If you would like custom labeling of your Archive Scans, see "Custom Labeling" pricing below.
  • Minimum order per scanning session is $50.00.
  • We do not retain a copy of Archive Scans once they are burned to your CD. However, we do offer 10 Year Archiving* of your scans. See "10 Year Archiving" below.
